Three Chevy SUVs Became More Road-Trip Ready for the 2025 Model Year

Chevy’s 2025 SUVs are here, and as a Chevy dealer, we’ve been having a lot of fun exploring some of the new upgrades and updates. The manufacturer was strategic in not messing with perfection this year, leaving most of the already-popular trims and features as-is. However, some of its updates expanded the market appeal for several models—particularly the Equinox, Suburban, and Tahoe.

There’s no denying that Chevrolet examined these three models and asked how it could make them better suited for drivers who get out of town often to explore new sites. For the Equinox, the answer came in the form of a whole new trim! For the Suburban and Tahoe, some interior, exterior, and under-the-hood upgrades made the existing trims more suited for explorers. Let’s take a look at why we feel these three Chevy SUVs will appeal more to road trippers than ever before.

Chevy Equinox

The Chevy Equinox has always appealed to drivers who are after a stylish compact SUV with a peppy engine. Its sophisticated aesthetic and striking cosmopolitan-forward special editions have made the Equinox a favorite amongst city drivers. Now, however, we think those looking to break free of the pavement will also explore this vehicle, thanks to some updates.

New ACTIV Trim

A couple of Chevy’s other small SUVs—the Trailblazer and Trax—have already enjoyed the ACTIV trim as part of their lineups for some time now. That made sense because those subcompact SUVs have distinctly athletic and youthful DNA. Now, however, the Equinox is borrowing some of its smaller sibling’s youthful charm by getting its own ACTIV trim.

The Equinox ACTIV gets all-terrain tires designed with deeper grooves and channels for dominating mud, dirt, and other off-road terrain. It also has a white roof option for a two-tone design, which gives it an undeniably fresh and adventurous look. Inside, you’ll find an earthy Maple Sugar and Black interior theme, pulling colors from the wild environments you might just explore in your Equinox ACTIV. Plus, it gets Evotex seating surfaces, which are resistant to wear and tear and easy to clean—something that might come in handy after a long day of hiking muddy trails.

You’ll enjoy some comfort perks in this trim, too, which are perfect for extended trips to the trails. These include a standard heated steering wheel and heated front seats, along with available ventilated front seats for optimal climate comfort. You also have the option to add heated outboard seats for rear-seat passengers.

A Larger Screen

We’ve pretty much decided as a society that, when it comes to screens, bigger is better whether you stick to the city or leave it. But, road trippers tend to rely on their in-vehicle screens more than those sticking to their regular, daily commute. Road trippers need to look up directions to new destinations and check on weather updates that might impact their outdoor aspirations. That’s why we see the new 11.3-inch infotainment screen in the 2025 Equinox as a road trip-friendly upgrade.

This new screen is 60 percent larger than the previous model. That means more visible turn-by-turn directions, traffic updates, incoming caller info, playlist info, and all the other graphics you need to see when traveling. This larger screen is also where you’ll take advantage of the connected services that come with the Google built-in apps.

Chevy Suburban and Tahoe

Chevy’s two biggest SUVs—the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe—received many of the same upgrades for the 2025 model year. If you happen to favor one or the other, you can enjoy the new adventure-ready perks in your preferred model. These models have always had comfortable, spacious cabins made for long days on the road. Now, they’ve just received a few perks that make them especially competent road trip warriors.

New Trailering Technology

Both of these models offer maximum towing figures of over 8,000 lbs. That isn’t new. However, what is new is the trailering technology that helps make planning trips with a large trailer in tow easier. One of these is Trailer Navigation, a feature that assists you in determining the best route based on the size of your trailer. It works in tandem with Google Maps to provide this service. Figuring out where you’ll fit (and where you’re even allowed to go) with a large trailer behind you is an important part of smooth road trips, so this is a really smart addition to towing superstars like the Tahoe and Suburban.

Next, there’s Trailer Tire Health, a feature that keeps an eye on your trailer’s tire life. The system uses sensors in the trailer to monitor the tires’ temperature and pressure. If either figure falls out of a safe range, you’ll receive a notification on your infotainment screen so you can pull over and address the issue before it becomes a bigger one.

Bigger Screens

Like the Equinox, the Suburban and Chevy Tahoe also received bigger screens for 2025—much bigger. In either of these models, you’ll be greeted by a standard 17.7-inch infotainment system. That’s bigger than most laptops these days, so you should have no problem seeing your navigation, playlist info, and other important graphics at a quick glance. You’ll also enjoy a new 11-inch digital gauge display. That’s where you can monitor important journey and vehicle stats like speed, trip meter, and fuel levels.

Higher-Torque Diesel Engine

We already know these big SUVs are ready for some serious towing action. And thanks to the updated Duramax 3.0L Turbo Diesel, that’s even more true than ever. With 495 lb-ft of torque, it gets a 7.6 percent torque increase from the previous model. That should help you get going when towing a heavy load. It’s also now available for all trims for both models, including the off-road-ready Z71 for the first time. If you don’t want a diesel, you still have two gasoline V8 engines to choose from.

Redesigned Center Console

Between snacks, maps, tissues, phone chargers, and sunglasses, there are a lot of little odds and ends you need to keep on hand during long trips. Keeping them organized is easier with the redesigned center console in the 2025 Suburban and Tahoe. Its new storage compartments feature more convenient placement and easy-access designs. Plus, the attached wireless charging pad has been repositioned for easier access.
