The Off-Road Pickups: The 2024 Chevy Colorado and the 2024 GMC Canyon
Pickup trucks are often geared for labor, letting workers succeed by giving them extra towing and payload capacity. Time and again, visitors to The Faricy Boys Automotive arrive looking for trucks for sale so they can exceed expectations at their job. But when it comes to what a truck can do for you, hard work is only half the story. The right pickup truck can also let you become a master of off-road adventures so that your personal life has an extra spark to it. Whether you like to venture into the wilderness on your own or with friends and family, the right pickup truck can make or break the experience.
In our book, there are two models that are particularly adept at conquering the most difficult terrains: the 2024 GMC Canyon and the 2024 Chevy Colorado. These trucks have some best-in-class features that make them particularly desirable, and you’re going to notice a difference both on and off the road when you purchase one. If you’re looking out at nature, hoping to explore it more often, it’d be a misstep not to buy a truck that’s just as hungry for fun. Let’s take a look at why these two midsize models will have your back wherever your treks take you.
Power to Trample All Terrains
There are a lot of aspects to consider when deciding if your truck is ready for off-road adventures, but one of the main stats to pay close attention to is torque. Torque lets your truck accelerate with urgency, which is imperative when you’re off the road. When it’s time to go up a hill or deal with any sort of sudden change in elevation, you want to know that your truck is going to be able to blast forward; otherwise, you could find yourself struggling to move ahead, which will put quite a damper on your outdoor adventures.
Both the 2024 Canyon and the 2024 Colorado come with torque that will let you succeed. In fact, the Canyon comes with best-in-class torque for its standard engine, meaning you’ll be beating out all others. The Colorado has an engine upgrade that puts it on the level of the Canyon, though, so you don’t have to be lacking if you opt for a Colorado instead. This upgrade is standard on the Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 trims and available on the lower trims.
The standard engine in the 2024 Canyon is a 2.7L TurboMax that produces 430 lb-ft torque; the Colorado’s standard 2.7L Turbo engine has a respectable 260 lb-ft torque, but we’d definitely suggest upgrading to the more powerful engine if you want to buy a Colorado for the wilderness. The extra torque will make your journeys a lot less stressful as you won’t feel that touch of anxiety as to whether your pickup can complete the day’s mission. The upgraded engine, also a 2.7L TurboMax, is identical to the Canyon’s, which is why it can match it for torque.
Built to Handle the Bumps
Power is an important element of succeeding on the trail, but the ride height of the pickup truck is just as imperative. If a truck’s suspension is too low or its underbody is not protected, then it can end up taking substantial damage when the ground is rocky or hilly. You’ll end up with structural issues that will have you shelling out a lot for repairs. Instead of dealing with that, you want to buy smart and buy a pickup that’s designed specifically to avoid those issues: the Canyon and the Colorado most certainly are.
The GMC Canyon, for instance, has an available transfer case shield and skid plates that protect the underbody of the pickup truck. If you hit a nasty bump in the road or drive over a particularly sharp rock, your underbody is less likely to take damage due to the transfer case shield. This goes well with the fact that the 2024 Canyon has a standard two-inch factory lift for 9.6 inches of ground clearance. This clearance makes it less likely your truck will have an underbody impact with the terrain, but the transfer case shield and skid plates mean you don’t have to stress if it does.
The Chevy Colorado has a smart design, as well. It has a best-in-class breakover angle. What’s that, you ask? An underrated aspect of the truck, in our opinion. If you plan to drive over pointy ground, whether it’s rocks or a sharp hill, you want to have a high breakover angle. A short wheelbase and high ground clearance usually yield an enviable breakover angle, which means that you can traverse a peak without the pickup truck’s underbody being scraped by it or, worse, obstructed by it, leaving your truck stuck. That great angle is helped by the Colorado’s best-in-class ground clearance of up to 12.2 inches in the ZR2 trim. This pickup is almost unstoppable when you’re off-roading. If you do end up running into trouble, you’ll be thrilled with the available five boron steel skid plates that protect the bottom of your truck. Is this another area where the Colorado ends up being the best in class? You bet. It earned that recognition for underbody protection.
The Smarts to Keep You Going
The tech in these pickup trucks is just as advanced as their performance and design. With the right tech, adventuring can be easier than ever, and when you consider the advancements we’ve all seen in the automotive industry when it comes to tech features, you should have high standards for what these pickups can do. Luckily, both the Colorado and Canyon will meet and exceed those standards.
The 2024 Canyon has standard Hill Descent Control if you opt for the Trail Boss, Z71, or ZR2 trims, which are geared for off-road adventure. The Canyon itself will activate the brakes when you are driving over uneven terrain or steep roads, letting you travel without fear that your truck will suddenly rush forward. The off-road performance display is another key advantage the Canyon has for you, as it keeps you up to date on how your truck is handling the day’s adventure. You’ll know your pitch and roll angles, tire pressures, G-forces, wheel slip, and plenty more. Having this information at your fingertips means you can always make informed decisions when driving.
The 2024 Colorado has a lot of tech to offer, too. You’re going to love its available class-exclusive underbody cameras, which will help you navigate if you’re concerned about clearance. You won’t have to get in and out of your truck, constantly checking how you’re doing as you try to navigate a sticky situation. To make you even safer, you have ten available camera views around your truck. And like the Canyon, the Colorado has its own off-road performance display, so you’re always in tune with your pickup truck.
All of Colorado Is Yours in Your Adventurous Truck
It’s hard to find two better trucks for off-roading than the 2024 models of the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon. They’re designed with fun in mind, and they don’t have any issue with tackling less-than-ideal geography. While they can’t yet swim (although they can ford through over two feet of water), they can do almost anything else. If you’re looking to spice up your life with more adventure, then these two trucks might be the antidote you’ve been looking for. We encourage you to stop by The Faricy Boys Automotive as soon as you can so you can take these for a test drive; we know they’re going to sell fast!
