2025 Ram 1500 Performance

The redesigned 2025 Ram 1500 has been touted as the strongest version ever, which is one of many reasons why it was named the Truck of the Year. For the 2025 model year, there are ten trim levels to consider, each offering its own unique benefits. There are also a number of engine options available, which is where performance comes into play.

3.6L Pentastar V6 With eTorque

The 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine with eTorque offers 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. This engine has been an option for the Ram 1500 since the 2019 model year. The “eTorque” designation refers to a mild hybrid system that enhances fuel efficiency and performance by utilizing a 48-volt battery and motor generator. The engine, which has been named to Ward’s 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems, is found on the Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, and Big Horn trims of the 2025 Ram 1500.

3.0L Hurricane I-6 Standard-Output

The standard-output 3.0L Hurricane engine is a brand-new twin-turbocharged I-6 that provides 420 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque. While this is less horsepower than the available high-output version, you will see below that this engine actually offers the most towing power of the three options. This engine comes standard on the Warlock, Laramie, and Rebel trims but is also an option on the Tradesman and Big Horn trims.

3.0L Hurricane I-6 High-Output

The high-output 3.0L Hurricane engine is found in the top trims of the 2025 Ram 1500, including the RHO, Limited, Limited Longhorn, and Tungsten. This engine offers 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque, providing incredible performance that outdoes the competition.

When shopping for a Ram 1500, you will find that both the Pentastar V6 and the standard-output Hurricane engine offer more than just power. They’re also efficient, giving you an estimated 25 or 26 MPG on the highway. When choosing the standard-output Hurricane engine, you can combine that fuel efficiency with the available class-exclusive active-level four-corner air suspension system—which helps to reduce drag—making the Ram 1500 a smart choice when you spend a lot of time on the road.

Towing Capabilities

As you can imagine, all three engines allow you to haul and tow just about anything you need to. Understanding payload capacity is essential in order to take advantage of everything the Ram 1500 offers and ensure it continues to function well for a long time. It is essentially the maximum weight a vehicle can carry safely, including the weight of the passengers, cargo, and any other items being transported.

The standard-output Hurricane engine offers the most towing and payload capacity, giving you a maximum of 11,550 lbs for the former and 1,980 lbs for the latter. The maximum towing capacity for the high-output Hurricane engine is 9,920 lbs with a maximum payload of 1,520 lbs. Meanwhile, the 3.6L Pentastar engine allows you to tow up to 8,110 lbs with a payload capacity of 2,370 lbs.

Assisting you in the towing game is the Ram 1500’s high-strength steel frame. For the 2025 model year, the Ram 1500’s frame is 98% steel, making it more durable and robust than ever before. That’s not all, however. You will also find that the Ram 1500 is jam-packed with advanced towing features. In fact, along with being the most powerful version of the nameplate, it is also the most technologically advanced.

Towing Technology

First and foremost, when equipped with the available air suspension system mentioned above, you will find that hitching trailers is a breeze, whether you’re using a gooseneck, fifth wheel, or conventional trailer. The air suspension comes with a bed-lowering mode, which assists in making the process easier. Along with those optional features, the Ram 1500 offers additional available perks, such as Trailer Light Check, Trailer Brake Status, and Tow Specific Navigation. Each of these helps you ensure safety while towing and makes getting where you’re going less stressful, whether you’re new to towing or a veteran.

Speaking of safety, available features like the 360-degree Surround View Camera give you a bird’s-eye view of the area surrounding your truck, which is key when trying to park in tight spaces. Additionally, opting for Telescopic Trailer Tow Mirrors gives you an expanded view, eliminating blind spots and offering more confidence during the drive. Other safety features that make towing easier include the available Trailer Reverse Guidance with Dynamic Gridlines. When activated, this feature allows you to reverse without the need for outside guidance. Also, the available Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path and Trailer Detection extends the area scanned, taking the trailer into consideration. This allows you to more safely transition from lane to lane, even with your trailer in tow. Finally, using the available Trailer Reverse Steering Control is as easy as turning a knob, allowing you to back up with confidence each and every time.
