For decades now, the Jeep Wrangler has been the definitive off-road machine, and that is not going to change any time soon. The 2022 Jeep Wrangler continues to build on the amazing Jeep legacy with an SUV that remains an absolute icon and delivers off-road performance that can take you anywhere you want to go. Each year, the Wrangler just keeps getting better, and the inclusion of amazing new powertrain options with the Rubicon 392 and Wrangler 4xe give us a glimpse of what the future holds for this incredible vehicle. Best of all, the luscious and rich interior features ensure you remain comfortable and in control while on the trail.
There are four engines available for the standard Wrangler, including a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that is available with eTorque for boosted low-speed performance. A 2.0L turbocharged engine is available, as is a 3.0L EcoDiesel, so there is really something here for everyone. If you want even more robust performance, however, then the Wrangler Rubicon 392 takes power to the next level with a HEMI V8 engine that lets this Jeep go from 0 to 60 in just 4.5 seconds with power unsurpassed by any other Wrangler. Finally, the 4xe features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that lets you go more than 350 miles on a full tank of gas and offers all-electric driving, combined with 470 lb-ft of torque.
All of these great engines are complemented by off-road capability that truly lets you go anywhere, including amazing ground clearance and water fording, thanks to available 35-inch tires. There are three different 4x4 systems available on the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, which lets you get exactly the kind of capability you need for the sorts of trails you like to tackle. Just because you are leaving the city behind does not mean you have to leave comfort behind, thanks to features like available heated front seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and even heated side mirrors. An available Alpine premium audio system, 8.4-inch infotainment display, and available forward-facing off-road camera give you fantastic functionality in any setting.
There are six total engines to choose from on the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, which can seem a bit overwhelming, but two of them are restricted to very specific trims, so deciding on the right engine is easier than it might seem. If you look at the standard Wrangler, then you have four engines to choose from, which make things a bit simpler. Overall, if you have a good sense of the kind of performance you are looking for and the types of trails you want to take on, then figuring out which engine you need in your Wrangler becomes pretty straightforward.
The standard engines for the Wrangler start with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that delivers 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, plus it has stop/start technology to help boost fuel efficiency. With this engine, the Wrangler can handle up to 3,500 lbs of towing in case you have a camper or trailer you need to pull behind you. There is a second version of this engine available that features an eTorque mild hybrid system, though this is not a full plug-in hybrid. The mild hybrid setup simply adds a small electric motor to boost low-end torque, which gives you a better experience during initial acceleration and during low-speed rock crawling and similar trail maneuvering.
There is also a third conventional gas engine available: a 2.0L turbo that delivers 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. If you are someone who prefers the feel and reliability of a diesel engine, then you are in luck with the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. There is an available 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine that offers 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, delivering excellent fuel efficiency and great low-end performance that is perfect for the trail.
The other two options for engines in the Jeep Wrangler are only offered on specific models, so keep that in mind if you are interested in the fantastic performance they provide. For years, Jeep fans had been asking for a more powerful option, and Jeep has answered with the Wrangler Rubicon 392, which features a beastly 6.4L HEMI V8 engine that delivers 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. This engine lets the Rubicon 392 go from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds and run the quarter-mile in just 13 seconds, making it the most powerful factory Wrangler ever made. Finally, there is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and its plug-in hybrid powertrain, which offers an estimated 370 miles of total range, 49 MPGe, and up to 22 miles of all-electric range from a full charge.
For most of us, the Jeep Wrangler is synonymous with one thing: going off-road and having fun on the trail. Fortunately, the 2022 Wrangler continues to live up to this legacy with some of the best off-road performance you can find anywhere. From top to bottom, inside and out, the Wrangler has clearly been designed with off-road capability in mind, and it shows. Steel skid plates on the underside protect your Wrangler while you are on the trail, and exceptional ground clearance and articulation let you tackle anything nature throws at you.
Every Jeep Wrangler wears the Trail Rated badge, which means it has proven itself capable of passing Jeep’s rigorous tests and survived the harshest real-world conditions. The 2022 Jeep Wrangler features a high air intake, moisture-resistant body openings, and sealed electrical connections that ensure excellent water fording ability so you can cross through streams, creeks, and big puddles without worry. You get 33-inch all-terrain tires on the Jeep Wrangler, with 35-inch tires available for even greater height and off-road control.
The Wrangler delivers fantastic traction and maneuverability thanks to three different available 4x4 systems, so you can choose the one that best meets your needs. The Command-Trac 4x4 system comes standard and delivers torque to all four wheels, ensuring excellent traction in rough conditions. An available Selec-Trac 4x4 system can automatically switch between two-wheel drive in good conditions for optimal efficiency and four-wheel drive for when you need it. Finally, the amazing Rock-Trac 4x4 system on Rubicon models gives you greater control and off-road performance, particularly at low speeds such as during rock crawling.
One of the best things about the 2022 Jeep Wrangler is that it has the ability to let you leave civilization behind and lose yourself in the wilderness, but you do not have to leave comfort and technology behind as well. The interior of the Wrangler has never been more comfortable, with fantastic luxury and tech features for you to enjoy. Many of these options require certain trim levels or packages, so keep that in mind as you choose the Wrangler with everything you need.
Jeep has retained the Wrangler’s legendary design with a folding windshield, removable roof, and removable doors to let you open this vehicle up to the great outdoors as you enjoy the trail. Yet, at the same time, the Wrangler is perfectly equipped to keep you warm when you are going off-road in winter, with available heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone temperature control, and even heated side mirrors to prevent ice build-up and keep them from fogging. Luxurious and comfortable seating is joined by weather-resistant removable floor mats and floor drain valves so you can enjoy lavish surroundings and still wash the interior when needed.
Equally as impressive as the lush interior options is the kind of functional and robust technology offered with the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. This includes an available 8.4-inch infotainment display with Wi-Fi hotspot functionality that can connect up to eight devices. The available Uconnect 4C NAV software includes fantastic navigation software to help you get to your favorite trailheads more easily, and an available 7-inch driver information digital cluster display can be customized to show you the information you need. For a truly unforgettable experience, the available 9-speaker Alpine premium audio system includes an overhead soundbar and all-weather subwoofer that lets you enjoy your favorite music while having a great time on or off the road.
