Ford History and Legacy

One of the things that truly set the Ford brand apart from so many other auto manufacturers is the pedigree and background that it has. There are plenty of car companies out there that have been around for several decades, but only a very few go back more than 100 years. That sort of reliability and longevity is not something that you will find just anywhere, and it really does have an impact on the kind of experience you get with a Ford vehicle.

Although the Ford name goes back into the 19th Century, when Henry Ford first began working with automobiles, the Ford Motor Company itself started in 1903 when it was incorporated and developed its first vehicle. This was the Ford Model A, and it was the foundation of everything that would come afterward – a great car with an impressive design (even though it certainly does not look like the cars of today). More models followed that, and though each one was innovative in its own way, they all shared a single flaw: they were slow to build. This was not unique to Ford, of course, as most auto manufacturers at that time had similar issues.

During initial production, only a few cars could be built in a single day, which limited how many vehicles they could sell to people. This all changed with the Ford Model T, which was used to develop the assembly line method of construction. The advent of the assembly line and its use in the auto industry changed everything. In 1909, about 10,000 Model Ts were built – by 1912, Ford made more than 170,000 Model Ts in a single year. This resulted in lower prices, making their vehicles much more accessible, and had a host of other benefits for customers and employees of the Ford Motor Company alike.

In the decades that followed, Ford continued to innovate and remain at the top of the industry with some of the most exciting and recognizable vehicles ever made. During World War II, for example, Ford produced more than 270,000 Jeeps for the American military, growing their operations and becoming an even bigger part of the US auto industry. Following the Second World War, Ford introduced the F-Series of trucks along with the 1949 Ford, which was one of the most important post-war cars in the industry.

After WWII, Ford has remained one of the biggest auto manufacturers in the country and introduced new and exciting vehicles every decade. From the iconic Thunderbird of the 1950s to the legendary Mustang of the 1960s and the F-150 pickup introduced in the 1980s – year after year, Ford has been delivering the most amazing cars, trucks, and SUVs on the road. And yet, despite all of these legendary vehicles, Ford has never been content to rely on their incredible reputation; instead, they always move forward and innovate with exciting new options.
