Like Henry Ford set out to accomplish with the Model T, and just as the F-150 Lightning does today, we’re here to meet and exceed your expectations. To do that means our work starts now. Here’s everything you need to know about the F-150 Lightning and what makes The Faricy Boys Automotive a top choice for drivers throughout Colorado.

The Ford Lightning History

The all-electric F-150 Lightning traces its roots to a gas powerhouse inspired by Ford’s need to introduce the best-selling workhorse to the performance segment. Ford carved its niche in 1991 when it formed the Special Vehicle Team or SVT, tasked with building a performance-focused F-150 with a few key characteristics. It needed to be exclusive and incredibly valuable, offer show-stopping performance, and have plenty of substance.

The SVT answered the call, debuting the F-150 SVT Lightning and the SVT Mustang Cobra at the 1992 Chicago Auto Show. Fans couldn’t get enough of the SVT lineup, especially the SVT Lightning that transformed the best-selling workhorse into a four-wheeled speed demon. It checked all the boxes on Ford’s must-have list, adding exclusivity with only 11,563 models produced. It also delivered incredible substance and value since it introduced nearly two dozen firsts or pilot applications for Ford; these firsts included bucket seats, a genuine dual exhaust, and 17-inch wheels.

Ford halted production of the SVT Lightning in 1995, reintroducing the truck four years later with the second-generation model. This break gave the F-150 plenty of time to shine and made the next-generation Lightning more enticing to drivers. In true Ford fashion, the automaker made the wait worthwhile and reintroduced the truck with numerous upgrades that added to its on-road performance, from its higher torque and horsepower ratings to its improved handling, upgraded wheels, and LED lighting.

The SVT Lightning cornered the market as a high-performance workhorse, but even then, its future in the Ford lineup was short-lived. As the F-150 grew to compete with rivals, Ford discontinued the F-150 Lightning, citing that the new F-150 chassis was too large to accommodate a speed demon. Fortunately, the SVT Lightning ended its reign on a high note after being certified as the fastest production pickup in the world in 2003. Ironically, the Lightning would return as an entirely different beast, exchanging its internal combustion engine for an electric powerhouse.

Meet the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

The 2022 F-150 Lightning marks the newest chapter in the truck's long history but adds a modern twist with its all-electric powertrain. It’s the most innovative and advanced F-150 in history, enticing drivers with its capable powerplant and expansive suite of cutting-edge technology. But how much capability and power can an electric truck deliver? The answer is easy for Ford: plenty.

The all-electric truck comes standard with all-wheel drive and lets drivers choose between a 98-kWh standard range or a 131-kWh extended range battery. The batteries deliver a jaw-dropping 775 lb-ft of near-instant torque, the most in F-150 history, for exceptional off-the-line acceleration. Power output is slightly different, with the standard range battery delivering 452 horsepower and the extended range churning out 580 horses. This power and battery configuration coincide with the Lighting’s 230 to 320-mile range.

As the smartest and most innovative F-150 in history, it’s no surprise that the F-150 Lightning is loaded with innovative technology. This technology includes industry-first tools like Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, which automatically controls the truck’s steering, throttle, and brake to make hitching to a trailer easier. The Lightning also comes with Ford’s all-new SYNC 4 infotainment system with a 15.5-inch touchscreen display, a built-in navigation system, BlueCruise hands-free driving, and the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of advanced safety and driver-assist tools.

Ford adds to the F-150 Lightning’s capability and innovation by proving it’s always ready to work, even when parked. The F-150 Lightning works with the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro that transforms the truck into a generator that can power your home. When connected, the Lightning with an extended-range battery can power your home for up to three days or up to 10 if you ration usage. Since the charging station is installed in your electrical box, it’s a safe way to recharge the Lightning or power your home without worry.

Things to Consider Before Purchasing an EV

Investing in an all-electric truck like the F-150 Lightning is exciting for many reasons, from positively impacting the environment to saving money on fuel. We encourage you to consider a few things as you prepare to invest in an electric vehicle. The most significant consideration is recharging the Lightning’s battery at home and on the road.

Recharging Made Easy

Fortunately, Ford makes it incredibly convenient to adopt an all-electric lifestyle by making the Lightning easy to recharge from the convenience of your home. With your purchase of Ford’s Home Integration System, a certified electrician will integrate the Ford Charge Station Pro with your home’s electrical box. Once installed, you can recharge the Lightning via the 80-amp charging station, which can also power your home during an outage.

Monitoring at Your Fingertips

You can monitor the Lightning’s charging status via the FordPass App. You’ll also have access to Ford’s Intelligent Backup Power, which shows you vital information on your home-charging system. You can use the app to determine the Lightning’s charging status, set power reserve limits, and control how much power is transferred from the truck to your home.

You can also use the FordPass app to locate Ford’s expansive BlueOval Charge Network. Ford’s network stretches across North America and is the most extensive public charging system available. With the Lightning’s built-in navigation system, you can navigate the most efficient route with charging stations along the way.

Driving Range

Another important consideration is how far your electric vehicle can take you before it’s time to recharge. Ford eliminates the stress of driving an EV and running out of battery by giving drivers a choice between two battery configurations. The standard range battery delivers an estimated range of 230 miles, while the extended range battery pushes the truck to 320 miles.
